AirPods as Listening Devices
AirPods are currently one of the most popular wireless earbud options out there. With their one-tap set up, great sound quality and 24-battery life, Apple AirPods have many great features.
One feature users may not know about is that AirPods can be used as a listening device.
In IOS 12, there is a hearing or live listen feature available on the swipe up control center. This feature allows an iPhone user to place there phone in one spot and listen in to the audio on their AirPods from a distance.
Wondering how to set up this feature? Here’s how:
How to add live listen feature to the Control Center:
- Settings
- Control Center
- Customize Controls
- Under ‘More Controls’
- Click the green plus beside Hearing
The live listen feature is now added to your swipe up Control Center.
How to use the live listen feature with your AirPods:

- Or direct iPhone towards intended audio source
- Swipe up Control Center

Now, if you are an iPhone user, you have a way to spy on conversations! In reality, even though this feature gives the user the ability to listen in on others conversations, the main purpose of this feature is for people with hearing aids to connect them to their iPhone. If the hearing aids are compatible, this allows iPhone audio to connect to their hearing devices.
All in all, the live listen is a neat as well as thoughtful feature. It allows one to play the ‘fly on the wall or revolutionize the use of hearing devices.
